The Cuban came to the United States via Nicaragua in need of dialysis

Demilci Medina Iznaga is a Cuban who left his homeland with the aim of recovering from chronic kidney disease. She told journalist Mario J in an interview. Panton also says she left the country on a trip to Nicaragua with her husband.

The truth is that this Cuban woman was not exempt from the risk of death on the migration route. However, he decided to venture to achieve a new life project.

Demilci received peritoneal dialysis treatment in Havana that not everyone had access to. After that, he left the Cuban capital on December 22, needing a kidney transplant.

She also admitted in the interview that her life depended on a machine to which she had to be connected for at least 10 hours a day.

Likewise, he explained that his quality of life on the island was deteriorating because supplies were scarce. In this sense, he had to reuse the few tools he had, when others were impossible to obtain.

“I used to run risks in hospitals because everything is reused and I got bacteria and infections in those treatments,” Demilci Medina confessed to the aforementioned journalist.

What happened when you arrived in the United States?

To Cuban’s surprise, the American health system had opportunities to help people with their physical condition.

It turns out that no one recommended that this woman cross the border and immigrate to the United States, but the desire to treat her was stronger.

In North America, there is insurance designed for low-income people to ensure a better quality of life.

Demilci also highlights that she came to the hospital in an emergency, when she did not have insurance, and received very good care. “They put me on hemodialysis and treated me,” Cuban said.

Demilsi and her husband also indicated that at first they thought everything would be too hostile. However, he was able to witness the solidarity of doctors and institutions, who provided him with help to move forward.
