Spring isn’t here yet and Google is already doing its big cleanup. This month the tech giant removed applications purchased by users from the Play Store without reimbursing them and specifically removed these 17 functions of Google Assistant, which were still functional. But that’s nothing compared to what Google has quietly ended up with: cached web pages.

Google will no longer remember all websites

Cached pages were previously found in a drop-down menu next to each Google search result. As its indexing bot crawls the Internet looking for new web pages, it also saves a copy. These pages “hidden” provided an alternative way to load backups of previously unavailable or modified websites from Search.

At the same time, all existing pages on Google were backed up clear web (See our file on the Dark Web for more clarification on the various parts of the Internet). By removing one of the first features of its search engine, it means that this backup disappears. Humanity’s digital memory is affected.

Google explains that caching no longer exists

Since December many users have been surprised that they can no longer use the functionality. Danny Sullivan, “Find a contact

” on Google, confirmed its deletion in Release X. The communicator explains the reasons for this decision. For Mountain View Firm, Cached Web Pages”A long time ago, when you couldn’t count on page loads the purpose was to help people get to pages

Nowadays, internet access and server stability have improved a lot. So Google no longer sees any use for this functionality, the button has now disappeared. Additionally, all Google Help pages on cached sites have been removed. This feature was undoubtedly extremely data intensive. Alphabet can also reduce costs by removing billions of TB of data.

Even if the button has disappeared, for now, it is still possible to create a cache link by typing: “https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache“, to which you will need to add the URL of the website. To see how long the functionality lasts.

  • Google stops caching web pages visited by its indexing bots.
  • Internet backups kept by Google will thus disappear.
  • Google believes that this feature is not useful nowadays.
