In February 2024, the federal government will issue Economic Impact Payments through the IRS as financial assistance to Americans.
Although these checks stopped being issued after the Covid-19 pandemic, many states continue to send checks or tax refunds to their residents.
For this month of February, the states in the country that will send these stimulus checks are: Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Colorado, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico and Pennsylvania. Eligibility for these stimulus checks depends on what each state and its own revenue department determines.
Beginning in December 2023, a stimulus check of $150.00 USD has been distributed to the state of Alabama. People who were pending are still getting it. You must submit a 2021 state personal income tax return by October 17, 2023. No new checks have been announced for 2024.
In Alaska, a stimulus check called the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD) is active. This amount corresponds to the profit earned during 2023. People who were eligible are still receiving more than $1,000 USD. Applications are being collected for the PFD stimulus checks in its 2024 version, which will start being distributed by the end of the year.
Arizona offers incentive checks through the Tax Refund Program. This assistance is for people who have dependents, each of whom will receive $750.00 USD. Dependents under the age of 17 can be claimed.
Colorado state residents will be able to request a stimulus check through a sales tax refund. To claim the check, taxpayers must file a 2023 tax return and request a TABOR refund.
People over the age of 65 who own or rent a home in the state of Massachusetts can claim the Circuit Breaker Tax Credit. The credit is equal to the amount by which your total real estate tax payments are increased, or 25% of your rent in the case of a tenant. Payment of these aids will translate into $2,590 USD.
In Michigan, payments are being sent directly through the Earned Income Tax Credit for Working Families (EITC). This will increase from 6% to 30% of the federal credit. In addition, a supplemental check worth 24% of the 2022 federal EITC will be awarded.
Minnesota also offers financial assistance for parents and guardians with children valued at $1,750 USD. There is no limit to the number of children who can be claimed. The total credit is designated only for taxpayers with income less than $29,500 USD.
The state of Montana is offering property tax rebates available to home-based workers. Applications to claim this check can be sent from August 15 to October 2024. This state stimulus will be for the amount of $675.00 USD.
New Mexico will also issue a $1,000 USD check to tax-paying residents. For this they have a budget of $15 million dollars. Single taxpayers will receive $500.00 USD, while married couples will receive $1,000 USD. As required, the 2021 PIT declaration form must be submitted by May 31, 2024.
In Pennsylvania, some of its residents may receive a property tax refund. Applicants have till June 30, 2024 to complete the process. This is done annually and is free. Eligibility varies by age. The Department of Revenue automatically calculates the rebate for qualifying homeowners.
