The shooting erupted during the celebration of the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory, killing one and injuring 21 and causing panic among fans. The event took place near Union Station, the center of festivities, as the city welcomed nearly a million participants to honor the chief’s third title in five years.
Fire Battalion Chief Michael Hopkins reported that eight to 10 victims were treated. Kansas City police confirmed the arrest of two individuals in connection with the incident, with one suspect identified as wearing red jogging pants. The situation quickly escalated, with authorities setting up “child reunification stations” at key locations to help affected families.
The area of the shooting, secured by a large police force and surrounded by yellow ribbons typical of crime scenes, saw many people being carried out on stretchers. Witnesses present are encouraged to contact law enforcement to provide their testimony.
The parade, marking a moment of joy and celebration for the city of Kansas City and its American football fans, was abruptly interrupted, giving way to scenes of chaos and anxiety. Local authorities responded quickly to secure the site and take care of the victims, while calling on the population to evacuate the area peacefully.
