President Louis Ebineder will withdraw from the National Congress a proposed zero rate bill to exempt imports of basic basket products from duty in case of emergency.

This commitment was expressed in a meeting held at the National Palace with agricultural producers.

The information was given by the president of the Dominican Poultry Association (ADA), Jose Luis Polanco, who pointed out that the president made the announcement while sharing with agricultural leaders linked to the poultry, rice and pork subsectors.

“The ADA values ​​the announcement made to us by President Louis Ebinadere, to withdraw the zero rate bill now in Congress. This commitment was made at a meeting that the President called us today (yesterday) and which was attended by representatives of poultry, pork and rice farmers. , in which he confirmed the government’s position to suspend that initiative,” Polanco reported.

He added that he appreciates the position of President Ebinedar because “there are no winners or losers from this move, on the contrary, the country wins, the Dominican Republic wins.”

Present at the meeting, besides Polanco, as president of the ADA, Wilfredo Cabrera, Juan Lucas Alba, Miguel A. Lajara, as well as rice and pig sub-sectors were represented.

Originally, the clause included sugar among products that could be imported duty-free, but was eventually removed in another report submitted by the Treasury Commission.

At the end of 2023, the Finance Commission of the Chamber of Deputies approved a report with changes, which was submitted for discussion in the ordinary session of the lower house. The piece was left to be heard in the Senate.
