In Oregon, New York and elsewhere in the United States, the cold has caused significant damage and complicated travel. Bad weather also offers some unusual and stunning images.
In the United States, the landscape is paralyzed by frost, and trees bend under the weight of the snow. Oregon is used to cold winters, but a second snowfall in a week has caused significant damage. A tree also divides the roof of the house into two parts. “I thought the house was going to collapse on us and I screamed”, says a little girl. More than 50 people have died so far in this wave of bad weather. Road accidents are numerous, and continuing on foot is not always easy.
New York under the snow
In New York State, entire neighborhoods are frozen under a thick layer of snow, hardened by blizzards. Since the beginning of the week, thousands of flights have been delayed or canceled. A plane skidded off the runway, unable to control its landing. Many schools are also closed. In Milwaukee, the snow makes for some striking images.
