Peregrine is about to crash land on Earth, and her human remains are with her

Space – This is the end of the journey of the unusual passengers of the Peregrine Mission. Because if a human remains on the probe, hoping to continue their journey towards infinity, they will have to accept a very different fate… at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean, once they re-enter the atmosphere on the night of January 18. .

Indeed, the probe, which took off for the moon on Monday, January 8, has now returned to Earth. If Peregrine never achieved its objective, it was due to an “anomaly” that occurred shortly after separation from its Vulcan rocket. This mishap prevented it from achieving a stable approach to the Sun, which was necessary to follow its path to the Moon. Nevertheless, the probe continued as long as possible, reaching lunar distance before losing control.

So a failure for the astrobotic company responsible for building the moon lander. The start-up, which had hoped to become the first private company to successfully land on a satellite, did not achieve its objective. Complete failure? Not for the Navajo Native Americans, who opposed the mission from the start in the name of desecrating the moon with human remains.

Forever under the sea

They are guests of honor at Project “Tranquility” of Celestis, a company specializing in postmortem space travel. The company participated in the mission to send the ashes of 65 humans and a dog named Indica-Noodle into space in a capsule. The families of the peregrine passengers had to pay more than 10,000 dollars (9,100 euros) per capsule.

But the early end of the mission at least makes someone happy. This initiative actually drew the ire of the Navajo Native Americans, who, in their view, would have desecrated the satellite’s sacred land.

On investigation, there were (but only in the form of a few strands of DNA) other high-distance travelers who were also among the fish: three American presidents George Washington, John F. Kennedy and Dwight D. Eisenhower and the creators of the famous series Star Trek

. They will eventually have to settle for an open sea burial.

“Astrobotics positions Peregrine spacecraft to ensure safe and controlled re-entry to Earth in remote South Pacific”., the company wrote in a press release. Peregrine will finally burn up on re-entry into Earth’s atmosphere this Thursday, January 18 at 10 p.m. in France. In the waves of the Pacific, various measuring instruments, scientific instruments… and passengers will crumble into dust.
