Orange cyclone pre-warning, schools and universities closed, CHPF white plan

The Society Islands went into an orange pre-cyclone warning. As a result, all schools and universities in the Windward Islands and Leeward Islands will be closed tomorrow, Wednesday 7 February.

A tropical depression is currently located south of Mopelia. Its movement south of the Leeward Islands and Windward Islands is slower than expected… and the system is slowly weakening.

To find out a little more about the results of the NAT in Mopelia, we were able to contact Karina, a resident of the atoll. She is asked by Maruki Dury:

NAT is expected to approach the Leeward Islands tomorrow, Wednesday February 7, and the Windward Islands, Wednesday night and during the day Thursday.

A cyclone warning is in place for the Leeward Islands and Windward Islands. Cyclone pre-warnings are maintained for Mopelia, Menue/Sili and Motu One/Bellingshausen Islands which are in effect today.

A warning phase is in place for the western, north-central and central Tuamotus.

It is not excluded that the Windward Islands will go into Cyclone Warning tomorrow, Wednesday February 7, 2023.

Authorities are asking the population to be alert to weather warnings and be prepared for the approach of a low pressure event.

An orange pre-alert indicates that the threat of a cyclone is becoming more pronounced. Risk in less than 48 hours. An early warning may be maintained after the event has passed if it can be envisaged to return in the next 48 hours.

The activation of the orange phase includes a series of preventive measures and adaptations
Hospital activities to ensure patient, staff and safety
Hospital infrastructure to cope with possible weather conditions
Dangerous: The CHPF moves towards the White Plan.
Consequently, CHPF informs its users of the gradual cessation of its activities
Scheduled consultation and hospitalization. Their closure will be fully effective
Wednesday 7th February at 4pm.
Continuity of care for hospitalized patients and emergencies will be ensured.
These measures will be adapted and communicated as the situation evolves.

A red cyclone warning indicates that the threat of a cyclone has been confirmed and is imminent. A cyclonic disturbance will affect parts of French Polynesia over the next 12 to 18 hours and there will be a risk of cyclonic conditions (mean winds above 100 km/h). A travel ban will be announced 6 hours before the measure takes effect, to allow the population to return to their homes or go to shelter.
