As Valentine’s Day approaches, an IFOP survey for luxury sex toy brand LELO shows that when it comes to communicating about their sex lives, the French are far from honest… including their partners.

An Ifop survey for LELO, a brand that offers intimate toys, reveals how the French talk about their sex lives. Discover the surprising results of this survey conducted among 1911 French adults.

False about the number of sexual partners

French people lie about the number of partners they’ve had in the past, according to survey results. Thus, 31% of them admit to having already reduced the number of their previous sexual partners. This concerns 40% of men and 22% of women. The same percentage applies to those who admit their interest in sex is already exaggerated, with 38% of men and 23% of women.

In contrast, 21% of French people (including 29% of men and 14% of women) overestimate the number of past sexual partners, at some point in their lives.

A tendency to elaborate and embellish their sexual relations

The study also sheds light on the truth about how French people describe the quality of their sexual activity.

28% (39% of men and 18% of women) reported increased frequency of their previous sexual activity at some point in their lives, and 25% (33% of men and 17% of women) reported a relationship to their current frequency of sexual activity.

Those who had already increased their sexual performance with their partners represented 24% of those surveyed (33% of men and 16% of women).

On the other hand, those who have already claimed to have had sex when it was not the case are 24%, including 31% of men and 17% of women.

Finally, 37% of French people (41% of men and 33% of women) admit that they have tried to hide their sexual difficulties such as vaginal, possible pain, premature ejaculation, erectile difficulties or having an organ.

Talking about sexuality: The key to a healthy relationship

In conclusion, more than one in two French people have already lied about the reality of their sex life, present or past, to their loved ones or their partner. A more common occurrence in men than women (64% versus 51%).

LELO’s Marketing Director, Amandine Ranson, emphasizes the importance of open and honest communication between couples: “As Valentine’s Day approaches, LELO encourages couples to come closer, share their desires and explore new aspects of their intimacy.”
