Joy Sunday is ready for that Wednesday The character Bianca Barclay will show her more “sensitive” side in Season 2.
While the actress, who was unveiled as Lancôme’s newest global brand ambassador on Wednesday, hasn’t seen any official scripts yet, she tells EW that she’d like to see Nevermore’s Queen Bee step up and express herself more confidently and honestly. . Next in the second installment.
“I’d love to see Bianca really expand and allow herself to be more vulnerable with the people around her,” she says, “I’m excited to fully experience Bianca as a person and continue to roll with her flaws, to recognize her flaws, And still see her as a multi-dimensional, headstrong character. “I love that I got to portray someone like (her) and I look forward to playing with her more.”
A powerful siren, Bianca dominated Nevermore Academy before the arrival of the brilliantly goofy Wednesday (Jenna Ortega) in the Tim Burton-directed smash hit series. While the pair clashed several times during the first season (most notably during their infamous, blood-drawing fencing match), they eventually joined forces to save the school and send outcast-hater Joseph Crackstone back to the grave where he once belonged.
The pair’s frenemy dynamic is something that Sunday looks forward to playing out in Season 2. “I think it’s only natural for her and Wednesday to have a bit of a rivalry. “I’m really excited to see their friendship blossom with her,” says the star, noting that she’s looking forward to seeing how “these two really strong and determined characters” develop into “beautiful young women” on their respective journeys. is
“Despite the fact that we are both trying our different paths, we can still recognize the beauty and love that we share, however hidden,” she adds. “I definitely appreciate being able to support my friends no matter how far they go, no matter how high they reach for the stars.”
Sunday also believes that “definitely” is a way for Bianca and her judgmental mother, Gabrielle (Grace Goldman), to reconcile their difficult relationship moving forward as well.
“There’s always room for redemption when both sides work toward it,” she says. “It is important that we recognize all the different dimensions involved in mistakes and in the individual. I think the same goes for his mother. Whatever mistakes she makes, they are reported, and I love watching Bianca…. She doesn’t have to forgive them, but she can at least understand. In this way, we can extend the same grace to those around us.”
Grace, however, won’t do Extend to Wednesday if the pair have a potential fencing rematch in Season 2. When asked if she has any words of warning for Ortega, Sunday simply replies, “En garde.”
In addition to allowing her to grow as an actress, Sunday credits the record-setting Netflix series for teaching her a lot about makeup. “I’ve just learned so much about my face and the simple things you can do to really brighten your tone,” she explains. “It’s definitely as simple as knowing where to put your concealer and how to make it really effortless.”
She actually had to “build” Bianca’s rave’n dance look—which included mermaid-inspired elements like sea foam green eyeshadow and pearl-accented cut creases—along with her makeup artist for the episode. “We wanted to really focus on pearls and that, obviously, because I’m a mermaid,” she says, “and so it was really fun to incorporate jewelry as part of my eye look.” I am eager to try this again. ”
So, when told on Sunday that she would be Lancôme’s new global ambassador, to say she was excited was putting it mildly. “I couldn’t contain myself. I had to because I was sitting in front of them. “Once I got out of our meeting I was literally torn to pieces,” she recalls. “I was very happy— Sorry – has been selected. And I will carry that happiness with me even today.”
She cites the beauty brand’s recent collaboration with The Louvre — starring Zendaya, Amanda Seyfried, Aya Nakamura and Hee Kong — as her favorite campaign so far. “I thought the campaign was just outstanding,” she says. “The Louvre itself, obviously, is just this landmark and it was very clever to associate it with some of our most legendary stars.”
