The building that housed Target was closed for two weeks before demolition began Friday. Footage shows the building described as “collapsing” and “sliding down the hill” after nearby residents were urged to leave their homes. Target has sent excavators to destroy part of the store that was split by a large crack.
The chain previously ensures that the safety of its customers is paramount after landslides give way to a building’s structural integrity and utility functions fail. Target said: “The safety of our team, guests and neighbors is our highest priority, and we continue to work at our Barbersville store to address the recent earth movement.”
Target said: “Beginning this week, we will remove the damaged portion of the store and take additional steps to prepare for construction over the coming months. “We continue to closely assess the condition of the site and collaborate with local authorities to secure the area and repair the store as safely as possible.”
