Ah man, did you realize that Need for Speed: Underground 2 will be 20 years old later this year? It’s crazy though. It was November 2004 as we sped through the streets of Bayview.
It’s a shame the need for speed isn’t what it used to be. The latest installment, Need for Speed Unbound, was released in 2022 and received a respectable score of 77 on Metacritic. It was a good entry in the franchise, but it doesn’t hold a candle to the legendary status that Need for Speed: Underground 2 has acquired over the years. Fans consider the game to be the pinnacle of gaming and even though an amateur 4k 60fps remake is in the works, longtime fans have been clamoring for EA to work on the real deal.

If you do a little searching on the internet, you will see how much fan demand there is for a remake. There have been several petitions on change.org – “Remaster of Need for Speed: Underground 2” and “EA, please give us Need for Speed: Underground 2 HD remake,” to name two – and yet these petitions have not gotten big. The number of signatures, the remaining comments show how much people care about this game.
“No other game in the series comes close to this!! Best driving feeling ever in my opinion, I miss it so much,” wrote one enthusiastic signer. It’s the same on Reddit. You’ll find endless threads repeating these pleas. Reddit user Worn_Out_1789 wrote: “I’d love to see a remake: It was a great game and I remember Bayview very well. The level of customization is amazing, and the game mixes a variety of races to keep it interesting. I also loved Brooke Burke as Rachel Taylor, and the story was a fun teenage dream. »
Is a Need for Speed: Underground 2 remake a possibility? How hard is it? Remakes and remasters are all the rage right now, but Unbound indicates that EA is looking to innovate the series, not look back.
