A Boeing 737-800 departing from Japan this Saturday, January 13, had to turn around after a crack was found in the cockpit. A new phenomenon for the American aircraft maker, the discovery of “weakly attached” elements on some of its aircraft has since come under criticism.

The flight, which took off from Chitose airport at 10:47 a.m. local time (2:47 a.m. in France), had to turn around to land again in the same spot a little less than half an hour later. None of the 59 people on board were injured in the maneuver. “The crack did not affect the control or pressurization of the flight,” an airline spokesperson added.

Boeing has suffered a series of disappointments since one of its planes – a Boeing 737 MAX 9, different from the one mentioned above – shut down during an Alaska Airlines flight from Portland (Oregon) to Ontario (California). The incident resulted in only minor injuries and the aircraft was able to land safely at its home airport.
