JVTech News “Never Obsolete…”: RTX 4090 in an old case, is it possible?
The PC world is full of little features that keep hardware fans very busy. On Reddit, there are many experiments from players, but this raises a good question.
Technologies have evolved at an impressive speed since the 1980s to the present day. The world of hardware is no exception to the rule given the number of components required to run the latest games and applications.
In the early 2000s, we could already hear about PCs that would “never become obsolete”.. Reality has shown us the opposite with the idiosyncratic evolution of technology, especially for everything related to creation and video games.
If in your childhood it was common to have “only” 100 GB of storage on your PC to install your games, today, a single blockbuster game can weigh in at over 100 GB… This Reddit post on the subreddit r/PCMasterRace, shows us A good old case with lots of labels, including one on top that says: “Never Obsolete”, or in Gotaga language: “Never Obsolete”.
Let’s see what this “never obsolete” PC gives us:
Intel Celeron processor with a frequency of 633 MHz, 15 GB hard drive, Intel Direct AGP graphic interface (Intel i740), all this is equipped with Windows ME “Millennium Edition” operating system, which is based on Windows 98.
How to say… this Intel Celeron processor fits into the PPGA370 socket, dedicated only to Intel Celeron CPUs… so in the early 2000s, there is no way to use a motherboard to put a “new” processor.
According to the Redditor, the PC is still working, but the operating system is unavailable for some unknown reason.
By itself, the “Never Obsolete” sticker indicates a promotional offer from the brand for a subscription that allows you to upgrade your PC to a better model for a certain period of time. But it’s funny to know if you can mount an ultra-modern PC in such a “retro” case (everything is relative, and of course depends on your age :)).
Short answer: Yes…
But it will of course be impossible for you to install the latest graphics card on such an old motherboard. It’s on the subreddit r/sleeperbuild that we find quite a few PC builds with old cases, but ultra-modern configurations inside.
The only things you will need to repair are openings in the case that are no longer up to standard. On the other hand, for the NVIDIA RTX 4090, you should know that this model is particularly long, about 30 cm for the Founder’s Edition. Do you see the problem? Yes, your case needs to be particularly deep to accommodate such a long graphics card.
