Microsoft has announced the next update for Minecraft Education, which is scheduled to be released in June 2024.

Minecraft Education is a modified version of the popular sandbox game Minecraft, designed specifically for educational purposes. It was developed by Microsoft and first released in 2016. This version is designed to meet the needs of classrooms and educational institutions. Unlike the original Minecraft, which focused primarily on creative exploration and creation, Minecraft Education integrates individual features and resources to support a variety of learning objectives across disciplines.

It offers lesson plans, activities, and challenges related to subjects like STEM, history, language arts, and coding. Students can work together to create, explore and solve problems in the Minecraft world, promoting teamwork and communication skills.

The update will integrate with OneDrive, allowing users to easily save and access their Minecraft worlds from any device. This feature is currently available in the preview version of Minecraft Education. It will allow users to test new apps alongside the main Minecraft education app. This can provide early access to upcoming features and resources.

The update will include some features from the upcoming Minecraft 1.21 update, which is scheduled for release in 2024. Confirmed features include “trial chambers”, procedurally generated underground structures and a new mob called “Breeze”.

This update, identified under Feature ID 381449, was added to the roadmap on February 7, 2024. As part of the general availability phase, it is planned to roll out globally on various platforms including Mac, Android, iOS and desktop. Deployment is expected to begin in June 2024.

This update can improve collaboration and accessibility for Minecraft education users, whether they are teachers or students. Integrating OneDrive storage can make it easy to share and save creative projects.
