Lotto. Three friends win 50 million after 17 years of persistence: “I’m retiring”

December 11 changed the lives of Carmen Austria, Gary Perkins and Catherine Wall forever. These three former work colleagues from Calgary (Canada) had been playing the lotto together for a very long time of 17 years.

On this December day, Carmen Austria gets up early, reports BFM TV, citing the Calgary Herald. As usual, she prepares coffee and checks the results of the previous day’s lotto draw on her app.

“Tell me I’m wrong!”

At the time, she did not yet know that the jackpot of 50 million dollars (46 million euros) had fallen. An early riser scans her ticket and receives a message that appeals to her, the kind you remember for the rest of your life: “Looks like you won $50 million.”

The player ran to the bathroom. Her husband is in the shower: “Tell me I’m wrong!”she tells him. Spouse leaves the cabin, released: “I’m retiring!”It decides.

It’s then 6 am, all that’s left is to warn two former colleagues who also won.

“Something serious happened”

Catherine Wall wakes up at 6:20 a.m. to find several notifications on her phone: her friend has called her several times. “Oh, no, what happened? Something bad happened”He thinks.

For his part, the third winner, Gary Perkins, was asleep when he heard his phone ring: “Who wakes me up at half past six in the morning? I didn’t answer.” But the bell rings again. This time, the sleeper takes a look at his smartphone screen: “I saw these text messages and this weird photo of a screenshot of a lotto winner where he says it looks like we won $50 million. I don’t get it.”

The life of a millionaire

The three friends, who started playing together in 2007, each won $16.6 million (15.4 million euros). Given the size of the jackpot, sharing will be a matter of detail: “I’m glad all three of us were able to participate in this win. It’s a lot of money anyway, I mean, I don’t know what I would have done with $50 million.”Carmen trusts Austria. “You’re wrong! I wish I had 50 million dollars, Ironing Gary Perkins who immediately corrects: No, emotionally, it’s better to win with a lot of people.”

After pocketing their winnings, the three winners quickly began to enjoy their new lives as millionaires. Carmen Austria visited family in Chile, Catherine Wall and her husband retired, and Gary Perkins treated himself to his dream car.

The group has planned a grand trip to properly celebrate this helping hand of destiny. And luck only favoring the bold, the trio decided to continue playing the lotto. Do we ever know…
