A third person was arrested after the shooting, Kansas City police announced.
Firefighters announced the death toll at a new press conference, reporting 21 wounded and one dead, all from gunshot wounds.
In a statement, the Super Bowl-winning Kansas City Chiefs said they were “saddened” and condemned the “senseless act of violence.”
“All of our players, coaches, staff and their families are safe,” the American football team said.
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas clarified during a press conference that key players and staff were not injured in the shooting.

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas asked residents to leave the area of the shooting. “Law enforcement is addressing what is happening near Union Station. Please stay away from the area,” he wrote on X, urging people there to “evacuate peacefully.”
At X, the Kansas City Police announce that a press conference will be held in the next few minutes, at 10:30 French time.
Thousands of people were celebrating the Chiefs, who were marching through the streets of Kansas City on Sunday to celebrate their victory in American football’s annual Super Bowl, when the shooting broke out.
Chiefs star quarterback Patrick Mahomes said “pray for Kansas City” in a post on X.
According to Kansas City police, the shooting happened near the Union Station parking lot and two people were arrested. According to AFP reporters, among those arrested was a man wearing a red jogging suit.
Law enforcement officers were deployed in large numbers at the scene, protected by the yellow cordon typical of crime scenes in the United States.
The traditional parade celebrating Super Bowl winners in the United States was disrupted by the shooting. Gunshots were heard near the Kansas City train station. At least one person killed, nine others injured. A fire department spokesperson said three of the injured were in critical condition and five others were in critical condition.
