Sensation in Melbourne! World No. 1 and defending champion Novak Djokovic crashed out of the Australian Open semifinals after losing in four sets to his new beast, Janic Siner (6-1, 6-2, 6-7 (8-6), 6-3). Friday 26 January. Having been swept by the Italian in the first two sets that ended in an hour and fifteen minutes, Novak Djokovic returned to form and looked far from his best, albeit with a bit more resistance to take the third set after saving a ball match.

Janic Sinner, the author of the game’s amazing debut and who knew how to keep a cool head throughout the game, scored the biggest win of his career. At the age of 22, he will play in his first Grand Slam final against either Alexander Zverev or Daniil Medvedev, crowning an unprecedented winner in the Australian final.

A sinner of great days

The Italian was perhaps best able to harass Novak Djokovic in his garden, where he has won ten times since 2008. Falling twice against the Serbian in the second half of the 2023 season (in the group stage of the Masters and the Cup in Davis), Janic Sinner excelled on the court of Rod Laver Arena. “I started very well, he missed a lot during the two sets, I really felt that he was not feeling well on the court”He reacted, all smiles, only after his victory.

After missing the first chance to end the third set tie-break, on a forehand sent into the net, he did not let himself be shaken and regained the upper hand in the fourth set. “We had to get back into it, I’m happy to be successful”, he whispered. To crown this achievement, he will play his first career major final on Sunday.

“One of my worst Grand Slam matches”

In contrast, Novak Djokovic missed his appointment. “I think this is one of my worst Grand Slam matches as far as I can remember. It’s not a very good feeling.”He disclosed in a press conference. His loss, his first in an Australian Open semifinal, marked the end of an unbeaten streak in Melbourne that had lasted more than… six years (2018 edition).Always looking to continue writing his name in tennis history, he Will not win his 25th major in Australia.
