Israeli minister unveils plan for Gaza after war

Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Galant made the presentation on Thursday A “post-war” plan for the Gaza StripAccording to which there will be “neither Hamas” nor “Israeli Civil Administration” in the Palestinian Territory.

Gallant presented a broad outline of the plan to the press in recent weeks before submitting it to a divided Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s war cabinet. During the war against Hamas, which has ruled the Gaza Strip since 2007.

As per the plan, operations in the region will “continue”. “Returning hostages”, “dismantling Hamas’ military and governmental capabilities” and “eliminating military threats in the Gaza Strip.”

This will be followed by a second phase, “the day after” the war, in which “Hamas will not control Gaza,” according to the plan, which has not yet been adopted by the government.

The Minister of National Security, Itamar Ben Gvir, called for the return on Monday “Encourage” Jewish settlers and Palestinians to immigrate to Gaza after the war, following a similar call by his far-right colleague Bezalel Smotrich.

But Gallant said Thursday “Once the war objectives are achieved there will be no Israeli civilian presence in the Gaza Strip.”He, however, clarified that the army would maintain “freedom of operations” in the region to counter any threat.

“The inhabitants of Gaza are Palestinians. As a result, Palestinian organizations will charge (management) on the condition that there is no hostile action or threat against the State of Israel,” Gallant added.

However, he did not specify which Palestinians would rule the territory of 2.4 million inhabitants.

The defense minister’s plan was unveiled on the eve of a visit to the Middle East by US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, seeking to curb the spread of the war between Israel and Hamas.
