Austin Butler, star of the Masters of the Air series, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. Soon to appear in Dune: Part II by Denis Villeneuve and The Bikeriders by Jeff Nichols, the actor exploded with Baz Luhrmann’s film Elvis.
A week to become an airbender
And the 32-year-old talent only had a week to prepare between the end of filming Elvis and the start of production on Masters of the Air! A complex challenge, especially since he plays one of the main characters, Major Gale Klaven, a role he got from his playing partner Tom Hanks in Elvis.
Austin Butler explained that moving so quickly to create Masters of the Air allowed Elvis to release, for which he had prepared intensely, back and forth.
“I immediately went to training camp”he explained Total movie, “I went from being a character in a jumpsuit on stage to being one guy in a group of 50 tired people. It was really humbling, and there’s something about the uniformity that I think helped me purify myself.”
“Elvis has left the building”
This very short transition allowed Austin Butler to fit more easily into his new character as an air pilot and to collaborate with his player partner Calum Turner, who played his best friend Major John Egan.
The two actors loved working together and managed to translate their beautiful chemistry to the screen, as evidenced in our interview below:
And Calum Turner understands very well the complicated process of shedding Austin Butler’s Elvis skin and the short time it took him to do it, especially after Baz Luhrmann got sick after filming.
The British actor explained The Hollywood Reporter He then sent her a message, but Austin Butler didn’t reply until later: “Sorry, I didn’t answer, I was in the hospital”. And Callum Turner then replied: “Elvis has left the building”.
This response is a reference to the expression used by the public announcers at the end of an Elvis Presley concert to disperse the audience who remained on site hoping for an encore. This phrase has become a slogan and a punchline.
But according to Calum Turner, the phrase was also a way of telling Austin Butler to Elvis. “left his body” And he will be able to continue with his next role:
“It was like Elvis needed a medical procedure to get him out of his body. But we formed a bond right away. We play best friends on the show, and it’s so easy to be Austin’s best friend.”
