“I never feel more pressure than I put on myself”

Heading into the 2nd weekend of the LEC Winter Split, the MAD Lions KOI ranked 6th overall, tied for Team Vitality. After the match against Rogue, Spanish botlaner Supa answered Troubleink’s questions on stage at the Riot Games Arena.

TroubleInc: I’m with victorious Supa here, especially after a convincing victory. How do you feel after this third win?

Supa : I’m really happy, I’m not going to lie, because this comes after two defeats that were really difficult for us. I think we could have won, but we didn’t play well against BDS and we finished badly against G2, so it’s nice to finally do things well.

Before I ask you more game-related questions, I’d like to ask you how your LEC experience has been so far? You got a lot of attention at the EMEA Masters last year, and everyone was like “Wow Supa in LEC, this guy is so strong, his Jinx, his Aphelios, he’s a hyper carry”. But how did the transition from ERL to the big stage happen?

I thought it would be more difficult to be honest, but after the first week of Screams it became more natural: you play with better people, you enjoy the games more, it becomes more and more interesting. So I really like that, and the experience in the studio is really amazing. Day after day, you look at the fans, you look at your opponents in the face and you say to yourself “I really want to destroy them”.

TI: Was that what you were thinking?

Yes!

TI: Anyone in particular?

to everyone

You want to destroy all ADCs, that’s respectable. Coming back to the studio, you said that there were 30 – 40 fans in the studio who came for several days to cheer you on, and I want to ask you if it is close to the atmosphere in Montpellier during the EMEA Masters last year? The final?

Last year we didn’t have that many fans cheering for us, so it’s a really cool moment when we hit someone and hear the fans screaming for us. This is very inspiring. In Montpellier, it was different, but when you listen to the people in the room, it’s also a really incredible moment.

You were really close to a reverse sweep but you still got into the LEC and that’s all that matters. Now, who will be the “Player of the Game” on your team today?

I think we all played well, everyone played as a team around our winning positions, but if I had to pick someone it would probably be Alvaro. He performed really well, level, confidence in himself. His calls worked well and he played really well.

I love that you give so much credit to your support. Do you think you played well?

I think I played well.

You played really well, because you are Supa MVP! Now, obviously, we talked about your transition from the ERL to the LEC, you getting those three wins that must have given you confidence, what the pressure was like when you knew you were going to be MAD’s next ADC and join the big leagues. Best cope?

The pressure wasn’t that much, at least that’s how it felt to me. I don’t think I ever feel more pressure than I put on myself or my coaches, so I’d say it’s not too different.
When you begin to learn to know yourself, understand yourself, manage your emotions and your confidence, you transform fear or apprehension into confidence and you become a better player.

And that’s what you’re currently working on, it shows through your gameplay day in and day out. Now one last little sticky question: Who is the best player in the league?

I would say Hans Sama, when we play against G2 in the botlane, I have a lot more fun than the rest because I think they are a cut above the rest.

I hope you make it to the play-offs so you’ll have the chance to “destroy the swan” as you said next time you face him in the Rift. Supa, thank you very much for this visit.
