Guadeloupe Hospital meets the challenges of tomorrow

The French Hospital Federation recently updated its inventory of the financial situation of French hospitals. The deficit is 2 billion euros for public hospitals and 500,000 euros for the medico-social sector and especially the EHPAD which itself risks getting into trouble.

In Guadeloupe, the Federation has established priorities. Its president, Dr. Andre Atalah, Gives us some of them.

We have several axes on which we have developed our platform of proposals: it is of course medical demographics, attractiveness, aging population, intra-Martinique / Guadeloupe cooperation but also mental health in the Caribbean and the financial situation of our hospitals. Consider what I call regional health disparities and regional continuities. When a region is less equipped than Guadeloupe, some are in mainland France, but next to it, there is a region, a department where you can have your scanner, your MRI or placement in intensive care. When that happens to us, we become saturated, we become a little detached

Dr. For Attallah, the activities corresponded to a public health need that made it possible to save lives but which could not be balanced due to the lack of a sufficient Antillo-Guyanese population base.

It is not possible to balance ourselves through activity alone, so we need public health funding, in addition to activity-based pricing. So we will defend the famous MIG file, Mission of General Interest, which seems to have been well received by the authorities in Paris.

The new university hospital is expected in September

Among other major projects, the eagerly awaited opening of the new CHU. The new hospital should help improve the quality of care and health research in the archipelago, an area facing an aging population and increasing health needs.

According to the Hospital Federation, the new university hospital will be a real breath of fresh air for the health sector. It is slated to open around September 2024.

This will be a real added value to health in the Antilles with a modern university hospital. That would be some of the driving force behind what we now call the Territorial Hospital Group. Today we have a large hospital, the GHT, with activities spread over several sites: psychiatry on the one hand, cardiac stimulation in Basse-Terre, coronagraphy in Pointe-A (editor’s note: which allows the cardiologist to visualize the coronary arteries) -Pitre. .. So we have only one hospital and we all are eagerly waiting for this CHU to open.
