French bills will rise (more) in July

French gas bills should see a new hike in July, this time linked to the increase in distribution network prices announced this Friday by the Energy Regulatory Commission (Cre) and network manager GRDF. This network usage tariff (known as “ATRD”) will increase by an average of 27.5% on July 1, according to the Cre decision taken over four years.

The impact on a residential customer’s bill will amount to +5.5%, or +7.30 euros including tax per month for the average heating customer, as represented in the Gas Sales Benchmark Price (PRVG) published monthly by Cre, Energy Policeman estimates. As presented in this PRVG the average domestic hot water/cooking customer’s total bill will be +10.4% including tax or +2.20 euros per month.

“Maintain a high level of security for the network”

This tariff represents gas transportation costs borne by GRDF and invoiced to consumers by suppliers. According to the GRDF, three-quarters of the increase announced is a carryover effect due to uncertainty from the previous period, during which costs increased.

Over the past four years, “prices have remained stagnant and therefore have not been able to cover all the company’s costs,” the group explains. “GRDF and Cre worked together to develop a new tariff structure and framework to prepare for the future and make the model more resilient. »

According to Cre, “this tariff makes it possible for networks to maintain a high level of security and actively contribute to the energy transition, in particular by allowing the integration of biogas into networks”. The government almost doubled excise duty on gas from January 1, a tax paid by gas suppliers that will be passed on to consumers’ bills at a fixed price.
