For players, many champions have lost their identity in a season of League of Legends

After the rest of this announcement

We are all our champions, even our favorite champions in League of Legends. We appreciate them for various reasons. Their appearance, spell kit, or even lore (or sometimes because we’re not too bad with it). Over the seasons, the MOBA roster has grown significantly, and now has over 160 champions. however, Some no longer seem to correspond very closely to the identity they were initially given, either because they have been modified, or because since their introduction, many new champions have “stolen” this identity.

The characters are drifting further and further away from their original concept

It was on Reddit that the debate was started. A player asked the community a simple question: “Which champion do you think has lost his identity?”

, a question it answers itself. For him, it’s Kenan, a niche champion that isn’t really popular.
I’m going to start. I think Kenan’s lightning fast identity was lost/stolen. Many champions seem to be faster than my favorite Lightning Squirrel, while speed is a major part of Kanan’s lore.

In your opinion, which champions have stolen and/or devalued key elements of their identity?

It’s true that when we think of Kanen now, we don’t see him as a lightning bolt capable of moving at high speeds (even if we E – Lightning Rush transforms him into a very fast little ball of lightning).

Others talk about Shaivana, whose perception has changed radically since its release. “Shaivana was a melee AD bruiser, now she’s an AP mage who can only cast spells while in final form. Her AP ratio to E was 30%, now it’s 90%, enough to triple her AD ratio. And I’m sure she’ll be played as a bruiser again…” It’s worth noting that Shana will receive a rework, perhaps the developers will take the opportunity to give her back the role she’s held for years.

Another candidate, Nautilus. For a community member, His lore was stolen by Pike, which came out much later. It is true that both represent a mysterious, but above all dangerous creature of the bilgewater and their stories share some common points.

Others still cite the Scanners, who have lost their identity since the end of the Dominion, or even the Seraphines, who have long been like second gold.

A situation that should not get any better

If Riot Games announced last year that it wanted to create all of the stories in the canon of the Runeterra universe, the recent layoffs at the company seem like a bad omen. Some projects will be postponed, and therefore streamlining the game’s lore should no longer be a priority.

Former champions who no longer conform to the basic idea given to them will certainly not receive changes to improve the situation. So we’ll probably have to come to terms with the idea that nothing will change, and that certain concepts that were good nonetheless won’t be reworked. So Kenan will never again be the lightning bolt he was when he was released.
