Financial company Cimex SA (Fincimex) has announced that remittances to the island are slowly being paid out, several days after being “freezed” by unexplained technical problems.
As is known, the transfer of money to beneficiaries in Cuba has been suspended, and neither Fincimex, the Central Bank of Cuba, nor ORBIT has offered an explanation about the technical incidents.
In response to the situation, the Metropolitan Bank of Havana issued an information note suggesting that those who received transfers from abroad should contact the financial entity that operates this service in Cuba.
But Western Union, which does not work with Fincimax, decided to temporarily suspend sending money from the United States to Cuba starting February 1, 2024, citing “problems with banks in Cuba.” The service is expected to resume in April. Three other US-based agencies have also stopped making transfers at this time.
Fincimax has assured customers on several occasions that it is “working tirelessly” to resolve the issues, though it has not specified what the issues are. On one occasion, he mentioned that “integration tests with banking” were being conducted and on another occasion he referred to “linking shipments with bank accounts”.
Despite these claims, Cuban Directory Confirmation from several readers continues that problems with remittances on the island continue. Consumers have expressed frustration over the lack of information and inability to get answers to their questions.
At the moment, the only thing that is known is that the Cuban government had to postpone the increase in fuel prices, claiming that it did not have the conditions to start collecting them due to a cyber attack “from abroad” on CIMEX. Corporation
However, it is not clear whether this also affected deposits of remittances sent to Cuba in late January and early February.
In the last hours, Fincimex Answered Assured another client: “Yesterday we started paying the banks. Gradually, the service will be restored.
