The creator of Family Guy has claimed that Epic Games “didn’t have the budget” to replicate Peter Griffin’s current body in Fortnite.
Seth MacFarlane recently spoke to IGN, in the clip below, about Peter Griffin’s entry into the world of Fortnite in December of last year. “I had to have someone explain to me what the f*ck Fortnite is,” McFarlane said, before joking that someone explaining something to him has accounted for most of his career.
MacFarlane then commented on Griffin’s in-game appearance, with the interviewer mentioning that he is a particularly difficult character. “He’s very muscular there, right?” McFarlane said he was “told they didn’t have the budget to do his actual body” before the reveal.
According to McFarlane, all Epic really did was stick Griffin’s head on another character’s body. It’s not really clear if McFarlane is referring to a Fortnite character in particular, or just a generic character model that Epic worked from to create their in-game models.
What McFarlane is ultimately talking about here is Peter Griffin’s much-hyped entry into Fortnite. Last year’s battle royale shooter had a little teaser trailer before the character’s entrance, and basically explained that he set out on a training regimen to prepare him for the violence on your TV screen.
McFarlane says the change was due to Epic not really having the budget for Griffin’s TV body, rather than a creative decision. I would point out that Epic has more money than most countries on the face of the earth, but maybe that’s more of a budgeting problem than actual money available. And besides, there’s some TV precedent for shredding Peter Griffin, a slightly different version of him, who prominently appeared in an old episode of Family Guy after an extreme plastic surgery.
