Emily Blunt and Christopher Nolan nominated for gongs as Brits lead charge at 2024 Oscars

BRITS are leading the charge for this year’s Oscars — atomic bomb thriller Oppenheimer dominates today’s shortlist with 13 nominations.

Christopher Nolan, 53, is up for best director and Emily Blunt, 40, is up for best supporting actress – though there was a shock as Margot Robbie won best actress for blockbuster Barbie.

Oscar nominations 2024 – Oppenheimer and Barbie will battle for Best Picture

Carey Mulligan, 38, meanwhile, kept the UK flag flying as she was nominated for Best Actress for the Leonard Bernstein biopic Maestro.

Londoner Jonathan Glazer, 58, was nominated for best director for the historical drama The Zone of Interest.

Irish star Cillian Murphy, 47, landed first Oscar Plug for Best Actor in Oppenheimer’s acclaimed three-hour epic.

Next Up for nominations were Poor Things with 11 and Killers of the Flower Moon with ten, though the doll-themed fantasy Barbie trailed behind with eight.

However, Ryan Gosling, 43, and America Ferreira, 39, as Kane, were nominated for best supporting actor and actress. filmwhich grossed £1.1 billion as the biggest box office hit of the year.

Ryan’s track I’m Just Can and Billie Eilish’s What Was I Made For, both recorded for the soundtrack, were nominated for Best Original Song.

Elish wrote online: “We are infinitely grateful for this honor and to be a part of Barbie.”

The Netflix-produced Maestro received seven nods in the competition while Anatomy of a Fall, The Holdovers, The Zone of Interest and American Fiction received five each.

There was joy for Tom Cruise, 61, as his Mission: Impossible franchise was nominated for the first time.

Mission: Impossible — Dead Reckoning (Part One), the seventh film in the series, is in the running for Best Sound and Best Visual Effects.

Saltburn was ripped off, as was Paul Maskall and Andrew Scott’s All of Us Strangers.

The ceremony will take place at Dolby in Hollywood Theater On 10 March.
