Discounts on food stamps through the SNAP program EBT card

In the United States, so-called food stamps are part of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). Among the benefits of SNAP are discounts received through Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) cards.

The Census Bureau reports that about 38 million Americans live below the federal poverty level. SNAP is considered the most important government contribution in the country.

Americans with an EBT card have the opportunity to receive discounts on basic household services in addition to food.

In August 2023, grocery delivery and pickup company, Instacart, announced the possibility of charging for EBT cards.

People who have paid service to this company with an EBT card in the previous six months will be able to receive a discount of $5.00 USD. This right will be present every month for one year.

Citizens who join Instacart can get unlimited and free delivery for orders starting at $35.00 USD. This measure is included in the Instacart Health Program to promote healthy eating habits.

Other services also offer their benefits

Residents with an EBT card will have the option to purchase an Amazon Prime membership for $6.99 USD per month. SNAP users can benefit from a $30.00 USD internet rate reduction through the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP).

Those affiliated with ACP must submit an application by February 7 at midnight Eastern Time. Museums for All Groups SNAP beneficiaries get free admission to visit museums, aquariums or zoos in the country.

New York’s bike share system, CitiBike, provides free motorized transportation to SNAP customers. For electrical equipment, a lower payment is requested.
