(CNN) — According to statements from his family and the King Center, Dr. Dexter Scott King, the youngest son of Martin Luther King, has died.
The King Center confirmed in a statement that the 62-year-old died on Monday after a battle with prostate cancer.
Dr. And Mrs. Coretta Scott King’s third child was married to Leah Weber King since 2013.
Weber King said in a statement from the King Center: “He passed away peacefully at home with me in Malibu. He gave his all and fought this terrible disease to the end. As with all challenges in his life, he faced this obstacle head on. Courage and strength. .” Weber King continued.
King’s brother, Martin Luther King III, added in a statement: “I am deeply saddened to announce that my brother, Dexter Scott King, has passed away. The sudden shock is devastating. It is difficult to find the right words at a time like this. This. Please “Please Please keep the entire King family in your prayers, and especially Dexter’s wife, Leah Weber.”
A graduate of Morehouse College, King served as president of the King Center and president of the King Estate, according to King Center representatives. The king had no children.
