The Final Four is taking shape in Melbourne. The quarter-finals of the Australian Open will conclude on Wednesday, January 24. Dayana Yastremska, from qualification, continues to make headlines and qualifies for the semi-finals, while Daniil Medvedev fought back in five sets to dominate Hubert Hurkaz.

Daniil Medvedev won a long fight against Hubert Hurkaz

He fought to get there. For his 100th Grand Slam match, world No. 2 Daniil Medvedev won his seventh major semifinal after defeating Hubert Hurkaz (7-6, 2-6, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4). Although the Russian got off to a good start in the match, he was then held up by his opponent for nearly four hours, bringing his time on court to over 16 hours since entering the arena.

But he kept his cool and knew how to break at the right time in the decisive fifth set to put his opponent out. He is now just one win away from playing in a third final in Melbourne and now awaits to know the winner of the duel between his opponent, Carlos Alcaraz and Alexander Zverev.

Sensational Dayana Yastremska in the final four

Is Dayana Yastremska starting to dream of an Emma Raducanu-style fortune in New York in 2021? Coming from the qualification, Ukrainian Iga Svitek qualified for the semi-finals by dominating Zack Linda Noskova (6-3, 6-4). An uncontested victory in less than an hour and a half of play, without dropping a single set, as did three of his first four matches in the main draw.

The over-dominant Dayana Yastremska, ranked 93rd in the world, continues her crazy journey, having already beaten top seeds Marketa Vondrosova (n°7), Emma Navarro (n°27) and Victoria Azarenka (n°18). At 23, she became only the second player in the Open era (since Christine Dorey in 1978) to qualify for the final four in Melbourne.
