Cillian Murphy received an Oscar nomination for her performance in Oppenheimer

Irish actor Cillian Murphy has followed up his Golden Globe win with an Oscar nomination for his performance in Oppenheimer.

Murphy was nominated for Actor in a Leading Role alongside Bradley Cooper, Jeffrey Wright and Paul Giamatti.

The Cork actor won the nod for his role in the epic biopic centered around theoretical physicist Robert Oppenheimer, described as the father of the atomic bomb.

His co-star Emily Blunt was also recognized in the Best Supporting Actress category at the 96th Oscar nominations.

She faces competition from US actress Da’Vine Joy Randolph, who has won several previous awards for her turn as a cook in The Holdovers, along with Danielle Brooks for The Color Purple, Jodie Foster for Nyad and America Ferrera for Barbie.

Robert Downey Jr. also received an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his portrayal of Atomic Energy Commission Chairman Louis Strauss in Oppenheimer.

Other nominees include Robert De Niro for Killers of the Flower Moon, Ryan Gosling for Barbie, Mark Ruffalo for Poor Things and Sterling K. Brown for American Fiction, about a frustrated novelist who writes a book that takes him to the center of hypocrisy. is Despicable

Greta Gerwig and her husband and co-writer Noah Baumbach have been nominated for an adapted screenplay series for box office juggernaut Barbie with screenwriter Tony McNamara for Poor Things, adapted from Scottish author Alasdair Gray’s 1992 novel.

The nominations for the 96th Oscars were announced Tuesday by Atlanta star Zazie Beetz and The Boys actor Jake Kidd, ahead of the annual ceremony hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

The Academy Awards will be telecast on March 11 at midnight.

Irish production company Element Pictures received nine nominations for their role in the co-production Poor Things starring Emma Stone.

It was nominated for Best Film along with Best Direction, Cinematography, Film Editing and Best Score.
