After several months of testing in a few hand-picked French departments, the smartphone driving license is now a reality for everyone. The news was made official on February 13 by Parisian. This document can be found in the France Identity app, available on iOS and Android, in the “Portfolio” tab.

The advantage is that it can be accessed without the need for an internet connection – practical for white areas. While it will not replace our physical documents, it is a certified copy of the administrative document. So it is also considered as proof of online identity.

Exactly, how will this happen? With their new NEO smartphones equipped with the NCF chip, the police can easily scan your digital driving license. And presto, that’s it. No more searching to find and pull out your physical license, enter the number, etc. In short, the process is simple and fast.

Only one condition exists: the electronic identity card (CNIe), which more than 17 million French people already have.
