An immigrant processing center near Eagle Pass was evacuated after the threat

(CNN) — Federal authorities evacuated about 200 migrants from a temporary processing facility north of Eagle Pass Thursday afternoon after receiving a threat, according to a source familiar with operations on the ground.

According to the source, the threat was not backed up, but the migrants were shifted to other facilities as a precaution.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) would not confirm the details of the evacuation, but responded to CNN with the following statement: “Threats of violence against law enforcement personnel and immigrants are unacceptable and CBP takes all threats very seriously. As such, we our personnel and taking appropriate and necessary steps to keep immigrants safe in our custody.We will remain vigilant and continue to work closely with our law enforcement partners.

The 150,000-square-foot immigration processing facility will open in 2022 and has the capacity to house 1,000 people, according to the CBP website.

Border authorities detained about 300 migrants Thursday in the Del Rio Border Patrol sector, which includes Eagle Pass. Immigrant apprehensions along the entire US southern border that day totaled 5,000.

Overall, migrant apprehensions at the southern border are down from 10,000 per day during the surge in mid-December.
