Amazon removes replays of matches due to “incidents advocating hatred, violence or discrimination”

The day after Lyon won the Olimpico against Marseille in Ligue 1 (1–0), the video of the match was no longer available on Amazon Prime Video. Without clearly stating the reason, the broadcaster confirmed the presence of elements of a discriminatory nature or incited hatred.

A few months after the events of the first leg, Sunday’s duel between OL and OM went off without a hitch at the Gruppe Stadium at the end of matchday 20 of Ligue 1. On arrival, Pierre Sage’s protégés won L (1-0) with a goal from Alexandre Lacazette. While the meeting was broadcast on Amazon Prime Video without issue, a replay was not available this Monday.

In a message on the platform, where the video should be accessible, the broadcaster of the French championship clarified that it will not be accessible until further notice. “Due to incidents during the match advocating hatred, violence or discrimination against an individual or group of people, a replay of this match is not available,” Amazon Prime Video indicated.

Homophobic lyrics in Amazon locations

Officially, the facts alleged by the broadcaster have not been clarified. However, according to information from So Foot, Amazon may have removed the Olimpico replay due to homophobic chants on the sidelines of the match.

Microphones placed near Gones supporters, who are banned from traveling to OM, will make it possible to hear “Marseille, we fuck you” very clearly coming down the stands.

The comments contradict the platform’s policy, which seeks to minimize the risk of complaints from organizations fighting homophobia or racism. The replay of the clash between Lyon and Marseille should not be accessible unless the problematic lyrics are hidden.
