Bayer Leverkusen qualified for the German Cup semi-finals this Tuesday against VfB Stuttgart (3-2) in the last seconds of regulation time. Xabi Alonso’s men trailed twice in this meeting but managed to overturn Stuttgart.
VfB captain Valdemar Anton opened the scoring with a header from a perfectly taken corner from the right (11th). Sebastian Hoeness’ men managed to keep the score on the scoreboard until the start of the second half but Bayer got back into the match thanks to a superb curling shot from the right by German midfielder Robert Andrich (50th).
Over the next twenty minutes, Bayer and Stuttgart clashed. First, with a goal from German Chris Fuerich on the Stuttgart side (58th), then a second goal from Moroccan Amine Adly (66th) that allowed Bayer to score for the second time. Bayerre finally erupted in jubilation at defender Jonathan Tah’s winning header in the 90th minute.
With the goal in the dying minutes, Xabi Alonso’s side continued their unbeaten run and avoided extra time at the most as they face Bayern Munich in a Bundesliga clash on Saturday (6:30pm on the 21st).
