Game news After FF7 Rebirth, what if this episode of Final Fantasy deserved its remake? The producer answers openly!
As the release of Final Fantasy VII Rebirth nears, its developers have been dishing out an increasing number of interviews. Recently, the question of remaking a particular episode was asked to its director at the time. For that, if this were to be done today, a central element would have to be completely modified.
Scheduled for February 29, Final Fantasy VII Rebirth is eagerly awaited by players. It must be said that the title is a direct sequel to the Final Fantasy VII remake and the second part of the FF7 overhaul project. Faced with the success of this trilogy, fans are demanding more and do not hesitate to demand another remake of the series’ episodes. When Final Fantasy VIII celebrated its 25th anniversary on February 11, the question of a more modern version of this opus was asked at the time by its director Yoshinori Kitase, who is also the creator of FFVIIR.

During the meeting with IGN, Yoshinori Kitas explained that he would be reworking a central element of the episode: its combat system. Here are the details he gave:
I think you remember that we had a matchmaking system in Final Fantasy 8. In this system, enemies are leveled based on the player’s level. So it was necessary to use and customize the association system to meet the challenge. I think it was a very difficult system for some people to understand. Depending on the skill of the players, sometimes they cannot find the best way to proceed.
So I think I want to go back and rework the combat system of (Final Fantasy 8) to better balance the level of difficulty and accessibility for some fans. So I think that’s what I’d pay most attention to if I were to consider remaking the game.
I realize that trying to recreate the amount of content from RPGs of the era in modern times is not really something to be taken lightly. It is such an investment of time and effort that you need to think carefully before starting such a project.
I have to say that Final Fantasy VIII’s combat system is quite unique, with its summons available from the start, its system of associating magic with stats or even its spells that must be stolen from enemies. If it can be mastered once it can be satisfactory, It remains too alarming for new players who will not appreciate it for its true value. And as for the feel of the FFVIII remake, we can’t say the makers seem particularly keen.
While a full remake of FF7 will take around fifteen years to complete, Yoshinori Kitas stated that Final Fantasy VI remake will take at least 20 years. And then, during this same interview, Rebirth’s director, Naoki Hamaguchi, explained that he would oppose the idea of starting another FF remake project after FF7, even if Kitas suggested it.
