A tablespoon of olive oil a day can save your life
The French consume about 110,000 tons of olive oil each year. Often used in Europe, it has many health benefits because it is rich in omega-9, monounsaturated fatty acids. A basic component of the Mediterranean diet, it will reduce the risk of developing cardiovascular diseases.
Among the benefits, the New York Post reports that olive oil also helps fight constipation. It acts as a natural laxative and helps soften stools. Another benefit is that it will reduce the risk of dementia, according to Harvard’s Dr. Anne-Julie Tessier explains: “Some antioxidant compounds found in olive oil can cross the blood-brain barrier, potentially affecting the brain directly. It is also possible that olive oil has an indirect effect on brain health by benefiting heart health“
Line the stomach
As the website recommends, drinking a tablespoon or two of olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach is especially beneficial. “This allows the oil to coat the stomach to aid in digestion, flush out waste, and regulate gut microbiota throughout the day.“, reports the New York Post. Experts suggest using a tablespoon of extra virgin olive oil to absorb as many nutrients as possible.
The DGCCRF reminds that olive oil is classified into different categories: olive oil “Extra virgin“(EVOO), olive oil”a virgin“(HOV), pure olive oil from the skin, pulp residues and pieces of olive stones, and ordinary olive oil made from virgin olive oil and olive pomace oil.
