A seven-month strike notice was filed by the CGT

On Monday, CGT-RATP, the leading public transport union, filed a strike notice from February 5 to September 9, 2024. The decision was taken as a result of discussions between the union and RATP management.

Indeed, along with mandatory annual negotiations (NAO), pay measures have been taken. Describing these decisions as inadequate, the CGT-RATP suggested that there was a discrepancy between the demands of the unions and the decisions taken by management. In a letter addressed to CEO, Jean Casteaux and reported by AFP, the first public transport union explained that “Management has confirmed its arbitration that does not meet the expectations of the company’s agents: a +0.9% increase in a period of high inflation and on the eve of a global challenge, which is the hosting of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

For CGT-RATP, Management “Still can’t gauge agents’ perception of this distaste for them”.

In fact, the union is demanding a wage increase of 50 index points “for all”. Additionally, it calls for discussions to go to 32 hours of work per week. So the CGT announced the launch of a strike notice “From Monday February 5, 2024 at 7 pm to Monday September 9, 2024 at 8 am.”

. The latter worries “All RATP staff from every category and every service », mentioned the union. In the evening, the CEO of RATP reacted to the news: “When we file a strike notice, it is to bring pressure, but we should not be swayed by the length of the notice. », he lamented at the end of the Extraordinary Board of Directors of the Organizing Authority Ile-de-France Mobilites (IDFM). “Negotiations will happen,” concluded Jean Casteaux.

RATP launches a recruitment drive

After criticism from the president of the Île-de-France region and the IDFM, who pointed out the lack of punctuality in Parisian public transport, the RATP CEO announced last January 17 that ” In 2024, by the end of March, the Games firmly intend to continue to gradually improve (RATP)

A few days after this announcement, RATP launched a hiring campaign with the aim of recruiting 5,300 new agents. In 2023, 6,600 were hired by RATP. Measures aimed at improving public transport service.
