A Nevada judge has sentenced a man who assaulted him in court in a separate incident

(CNN) — A man seen on video jumping and attacking a judge sitting behind a bench in Clark County, Nevada, was back in court last week Monday and sentenced by the same judge for the incident that led to his arrest.

Deobra Redden, 30, was sentenced to 19 months to four years in prison for one count of attempted assault causing grievous bodily harm.

He covered his hands, mouth and face during his court appearance on Monday.

Judge Mary Kay Holthus insisted that she had planned the imposition before Redden attacked her in the now-viral incident.

“The last time we were here, arraignments had concluded and the court had begun sentencing when an incident occurred, an incident initiated by Mr. Redden, that prevented the court from completing the sentencing,” Holthus said. “Any other issues arising from the events of last Wednesday will be resolved by a separate court at a future date.”

According to court records, Redden was charged with seven counts of assault on a protected person and battery in connection with last week’s assault.

Last week’s incident came to light Wednesday after Redden and his lawyer asked a judge for probation instead of jail time, saying the 30-year-old is trying to get his life back together with a new job and plans to resume his education.

Holthaus then read the defendant’s criminal history aloud to the court, which included “three felonies…misdemeanors, multiple DV (domestic violence)…theft, attempted home invasion.”

Redden’s attorney told the judge he believed his client would be able to successfully complete probation.

“I appreciate that,” the judge replied, “but I think it’s time for me to try something else because… I can’t do that with history.”

Seconds later, Redden shouted, “Fuck that b***h!” and ran towards the judge, jumped on the bench and attacked him. Redden knocked Holthus to the ground and the two disappeared from the camera’s view behind the stands, the video shows.

When other members of the room tried to stop him, Redden yelled: “F*** you both!” and threw several punches.

The judge remained on the ground for several minutes before getting up, looking like she had hit her head. According to the Clark County court statement, Holthus “suffered multiple injuries.”

She returned to work Thursday, but was still “sore and stiff,” Chief Justice Jerry Wiese told reporters.

The district attorney said his office is reviewing the evidence and plans to file additional charges against Redden, CNN previously reported.
