A nasty surprise that annoys players

Red Dead Redemption 2 is one of the best games ever made. This is an undeniable fact, but in recent hours it has been at the center of controversy.

With Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar Games has shown the extent of its talent by offering a work unmatched by any other. More than five years after its release, the game broke the all-time attendance record on Steam with 72,628 simultaneous players. The Black Friday 2023 promotion helped a lot, but that’s not all. Despite its flaws, some are in love with the title from day one. Maybe it’s too much because it’s running against today’s software. The latest incident is still irritating the entire RDR 2 community.

Red Dead Redemption 2 attracts the wrath of players

The Game Awards 2023 has had its share of controversies, but the Steam Awards 2023 is no exception. The first controversy was to give Starfield the “Most Innovative Gameplay” award. Bethesda’s RPGs may have many virtues, but for many players this isn’t one of them. At the same time, a new controversy has arisen, this time around Red Dead Redemption 2. The game emerged as a big winner in the “Love Hate” category. An award that represents the love of players? Not really.

No, the Steam Award is “Unbreakable Love” to recognize the follow-up provided by developers. “This game has been out for a while. He took his first steps long ago, but, like a good mother, the team continues to mother him and support his creation. The game, to this day, is still getting new content after all these years”.

That’s the description, but the problem here is that it doesn’t quite match reality. Red Dead Redemption 2, for example, didn’t receive major additional content for its single-player, and Red Dead Online has been dead since 2022 because it’s no longer updated. Last Halloween, Rockstar re-served the same DLC already offered in 2021, 2022, and so on in 2023. On PC, it’s the community that continues to improve this hit like the latest impressive 8K mod.

Steam Awards for Best Sequel to RDR 2, a joke

Seeing Red Dead Redemption 2 receive an award for its follow-up is clearly controversial. “Given that Rockstar dropped it a long time ago, this game defies description. The Steam Awards are a joke and they happen every year »; “Let’s applaud RDR 2 for winning the Unwavering Love Award at the Steam Awards. Despite the lack of major updates, fans voted for him »; “Why was he nominated in this category? »; “How games like Stardew Valley, Terraria or No Man’s Sky weren’t named, but Red Dead Redemption 2 was. And he won ! is beyond me. It’s one of my favorite sports, but it doesn’t deserve that distinction.” Can we read on X?

And in fact, the list of nominees is highly debated as Red Dead Redemption 2 was facing Rust, DOTA 2, Deep Rock Galactic or Apex Legends. Unlike RDR 2, titles that are still heavily supported by their developers after all these years.
