While the name of the speculated next major version of Windows, Windows 12, has been floating around the web for some time now, it finally seems that Microsoft is counting on Windows 11’s life cycle to be closer to that of Windows 10. As a result, while some sources predicted the arrival of Windows 12 in 2024, users should prepare for a nice Windows 11 update instead.
This, described as “significantly heavier” than the 23H2 update, is already in the works, and is codenamed Hudson Valley (24H2). Microsoft, as its name suggests, should start pushing it to compatible PCs in the second half of the year — probably around September, according to Android Authority. Computer manufacturers will be able to offer it on their references from April.
This update should most likely introduce more artificial intelligence to Windows, and will be based on a new version of the platform – as if it were an installation of a new major version of Windows. This means that you have to prepare for a relatively long installation time, resulting in a complete replacement of the latest version of Windows 11 available at the time of the update.
So there’s the question of updates around Copilot, the AI set to become the heart of the Windows experience. The update specifically launches a “more advanced” Copilot, taking advantage of the native AI capabilities of next-generation PCs. This version should be according to Windows Central “Improve productivity with apps, files and search”
. One of the functions of Copilot will be to help the user quickly find any recently opened file. There’s also talk of improving various interface elements like File Explorer – as well as the introduction of a new power-saving mode. In addition we should find several improvements tested for some time in the Canary Canal.
Which should benefit from performance, security features while providing a slightly cleaner interface. This update should also spell the end for some native apps including Cortana, Mail, Calendar, Maps, People, and Movies & TV. WordPad will still be entitled to a short recovery before the next update.
