A case of tuberculosis in a nursery school teacher

The BCG vaccine, which protects children against tuberculosis, has not been mandatory for entry into the community since 2007. And the disease, characterized by severe lung infections, has sporadically reappeared in France. In Libourne, in the Gironde, a nursery school teacher was diagnosed with the disease. Parents learned of this by receiving an information letter from the Gironde department on January 30. “As of today, there is no longer any risk of contagion”

Some students at Garderos School in Lybourne who were in contact with this teacher were infected with the Koch bacillus bacteria which is spread through the air. To prevent the risk of contamination, they will be screened in accordance with the recommendations of the High Council of Public Health. Worrying symptoms

Screening is coordinated by the Bordeaux Anti-Tuberculosis Center. An information meeting for parents is being held at Gardero’s Nursery School in Lybourne on Tuesday at 4.30pm. Medicines required for medical examination will be distributed on this occasion.

In the meantime, parents are urged to be especially vigilant for symptoms that may indicate tuberculosis infection in their children. An unusual cough, night sweats, unexplained fatigue and weight loss should consult their doctor immediately.
