Now it’s official! Sydney Sweeney will be the second Spider-Woman in Madame Web. ~Marvel Universe 616

Sidney Sweeney’s upcoming superhero role in Madame Web has just been confirmed, thanks to Total Film magazine. She will actually be playing the role of Julia Carpenter, as claimed in the rumours. Julia is also known as the second Spider-Woman. The actress shared that “(she) couldn’t be more excited about it” and how she “can’t wait to be able to talk about it”.
But who exactly is Julia Carpenter? Carpenter became Spider-Woman after being unknowingly subjected to experiments as part of an “athletic study”. At some point, he was injected with a mixture of spider venom and exotic plant extracts – giving him powers similar to those of Spider-Man. His first appearance was in the epic original Secret Wars miniseries.
Julia has played a major role in the comics before, taking part in the first Secret Wars event and briefly becoming an Avenger. She also shares some history with the Kravinoff family, having been the subject of a sacrificial attempt to bring Kraven the Hunter back to life. This experience led her to become the new Madame Webb, as the original Webb expired due to a fatal wound inflicted by the Kravinoffs. With her new cloak, she was granted telepathic, precognitive and astral projection powers, along with the blindness of the original Madame Tia, Cassandra Webb.
The cast includes Dakota Johnson (Cassandra Webb), Sydney Sweeney (Julia Carpenter), Celeste O’Connor, Isabella Merced, Adam Scott, Emma Roberts and others. The Madame Web film will be directed by SJ Clarkson and written by writers Burk Sharpless and Matt Szama. Madam Web will be released in theaters on 16 February 2024.
