PITTSBURGH (AP) — Jared Triolo hit his first major league home run, hitting three runs in the seventh inning, as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 on Sunday in the first game of the doubleheader.
Pittsburgh closed the gap 2-0 against the Reds, who lost nine of 11.
Alex Williams kicked off his comeback with RBI’s fifth single.
Lucas Sims passed Liover Peguero in seventh place, while striker Andy Rodriguez drew Alex Young (4-1).
Triolo, 116th at-bat in 128 matches, hit left field with a full score.
Angel Perdomo (3-2) broke a scoreless seventh. David Bednar allowed Will Benson to make a triple in the ninth, but he earned his 24th save of 27 chances.
Young suffered his first defeat with the Reds.
Mitch Keller allowed two runs – one earned – five hits, one absenteeism, hitting seven out of six innings. Reds starter Brandon Williamson allowed one run and two hits in the 5 2/3 innings.
