In the Shestakov Department of Mental Health, music therapy is used as an auxiliary tool for the treatment of patients.

As our newspaper reported, an interesting master class on music therapy was implemented in the mental health department of the Shestakovskaya hospital, which serves to improve the condition of patients. Flavio Baldassi, who is in charge of the program, spoke about this with FM Vos (94.5) and with Diario San Rafael.
In mid-March, this mental health seminar began at Shestakovskaya Hospital and moved forward. “He works in a group dynamic that works along three axes of people: the axis of organization, which should rather organize and stabilize a person at the level of records, with himself, with his space-time environment, since there are situations in which people are quite disorganized according to tables; an axis of subjectivity that works more with identity narrative, everyone’s identity, history, conflicts, suffering, etc. (most emotional area); and the psychosocial axis, working to record a shared reality, the rules of coexistence. We are working in these three areas with the logic of bringing in and contributing to the psychosocial rehabilitation process carried out by the entire mental health service team,” explained Baldassi.
On an individual level, it was treated by team professionals, whereas music therapy is applied to all prisoners at that time (or at least those who are able and willing to participate). “The logic of psychosocial rehabilitation is that this is a space where the whole group can gather, share, get to know each other, empathize with what they have in common, because the apparatus is group, it works every day, this is a session, a workshop lasting one hour, one hour and a quarter, depending on the dynamics,” he explained.
There are some patients who do not want to participate, perhaps because of the same frames that they present, while there are those who have a very good reception, which is due to the fact, said Baldassi, that “among the people entering the service, there are very different frames, but in general a space of trust is created, with the only rule is to try to stay and listen to each other, what they say individually, that they wait their turn, they work a lot with music, with songs, and this is where you can notice some difficulties with waiting, listening, talking at the right time, but the group is able to function stably for an hour, more or less, with positive results.” However, he clarified, “the group is disarming all the time, because there are people who are there for two or three days, people who are there for a week or longer, but after the second week, third week or month there is a change, but new people join the people who have already worked on the device, and this also helps, because there is a cohesive group that has a base of group awareness and logic of work.”
He recalled that they started with a few tools, but thanks to the hospital cooperator, others were added, very good quality, which greatly improved the work.
