One of the most anticipated releases of 2023, oppenheimer hit theaters last Thursday, the 20th, however, one country was left out of that premiere. Japan, an important representative of the Asian box office, remains without a release date for the feature.
Although the country has a definite history of postponing new Hollywood releases by a few weeks – to assess their popularity and marketability – it is possible that the theme of Christopher Nolan’s feature was the deciding factor. Ultimately, oppenheimer Relates to the creation of the atomic bomb, which was used single-handedly on two Japanese cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
The sensitive subject matter will potentially alienate some viewers, so the launch delay is still an analysis of the popularity and market, as well as many others. Even with the world premiere, distributors in Japan have yet to comment on a national release date.
