James Gunn reveals the story behind the blurp in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 ~ Marvel Universe 616

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 features the return of many fan-favorite characters from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as some new cast members. The film featured the debut of Will Poulter as Adam Warlock, who was introduced in one of the post-credits scenes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. In the new movie, Adam is still quite immature and bonds with a hilarious little creature named Blurp after killing his Marauder boss, Fitz-Gibbonnock. As it turns out, the blurp was originally conceived as a cat, but after the mascot Flareken Goose was prominently featured in Captain Marvel, director James Gunn decided to change it.

“Blurp is — I wouldn’t call Blurp a major character, although I’ve said on Twitter that Blurp is the most important character in the future of the MCU,” Gunn explained during Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. In the audio commentary version of the film 3. “I really like this little animal, and the blurp we call ‘Dear F’Saki’. In the first movie, there was a creature that people used to bet on and eat orloni at the table, and that was the non-furry fasaki, it’s the furry version, much cuter than the non-furry version. ,

Gunn continued, “As some people know, originally in the script for Volume 2, the character of Adam Warlock was in front of me, and it got really complicated because of so many characters.” “So I scrapped Adam Warlock and just kept Ayesha, who is played by Elizabeth Debicki in both movies and she’s really fun to work with. In that movie, in the script for Volume 2, Adam Warlock had a cat that he found. He killed a guy, he felt guilty about it, and the guy had a cat that was upset because the guy was dead, so he has this cat that he carries around for the rest of the movie. The blurp is basically that. But between the script for 2, which was I took Adam Warlock, and 3, the Captain Marvel script came out, which had a cat that had a big role in that movie, and I know it has a role in the next Marvel movie. And then I had to change the blurp to something other than a cat because it felt too repetitive.

While we’re on the subject of weird little creatures, there’s an interesting fact about the Orloni, the rodent-like creatures that are first seen in Guardians of the Galaxy in the Morlag opening sequence. These creatures are also seen in the Guardians’ new base, Nowhere. At the beginning of the third film, you can see Drax (Dave Bautista), Mantis (Pom Klementieff), Nebula (Karen Gillan) and Kraglin (Sean Gunn) munching on some Orloni. Turns out the actors are actually eating the creatures, which was a lot more work than you’d think.

“They’re eating deep-fried ororaloni,” Gunn explains. “Those orloni were made with different components because some people… you know, Dave Bautista, are vegetarian, so we had to make them with a certain type of veggie gelatin. And other people had other requirements. They’re very specific about what these actors eat and don’t eat, so we had to make all kinds of different orloni.”
