Sao Paulo, SP (Folhapres) – Can having sex help you lose weight? But losing enough weight to replace the benefits of regular exercise and a balanced diet? Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, Kate Hudson and Cameron Diaz vouch for it. They are some of the proponents of the controversial “sex diet”, a practice that involves engaging in intense sex for continuous hours at least three times a week.

According to the English press, a few years ago, when Kardashian was at the height of her relationship with Kanye West, she lost three kilos in seven days in this blissful way. Kate and Cameron have already said that they too have had good results with the technique, however, this is not unanimous.

For endocrinologist Maria Edna de Mello, it’s almost a joke to believe that it’s possible to lose weight healthily by having sex for hours without a break and at a predetermined frequency. “Talking with real experiences about weight loss de-stigmatizes serious treatment,” says the professional.

She warns of another problem that may come with this “diet.” “Prolonged sexual practice can lead to genital injuries and microlacerations that can turn into infections,” he says. Not to mention the “obligation” of having sex for so long, at a frantic pace, to achieve the desired goals. The doctor says, “Sexual health is important for a couple’s life and its benefits include the mental part as well.”

There is still no consensus on how many calories this sexual marathon will burn – talk is around 8,000 in three hours. Maria Edna emphasizes that this “technique” does not bring good results and should be avoided. He defended, saying, “Gym, exercise and above all, taking care of your diet is the best recommendation for weight loss.”

Gynecologist Vanessa Matos also warns that prolonged sex can bring about internal problems, which are more felt than seen. “Prolonged intercourse can also lead to urinary tract infections. Since the regimen involves uninterrupted exercise, vaginal lubrication can be compromised, which can lead to injury, which contributes to sexually transmitted diseases,” he says.
