Not So Barbie: Mubi Presents Themed Special

Global Distributor, Streaming Service and Manufacturer, Mubi announces special not so barbie to honor the premiere of Greta Gerwig’s long-awaited film Barbie. This Friday, the 1988 comedy Mortal Attraction (Heathers) arrives to complete the schedule, which brings together eight other productions.

The iconic Barbie doll perpetuates a stereotypical female standard of perfection in beauty, lifestyle, profession, and cultural contexts. The Not So Barbie collection is a paradox, featuring films featuring female protagonists who escape the norm and subvert the norm of behavior, clothing, and professional and personal aspirations imposed on women.

Among the films already available are: Coming of Age Drama girls, by Celine Signamma; funny dramatic comedy African Desperate, by Martyn Sims; low budget drama (mambalacore) hannah climbs the stairs, by Zoe Swanberg and starring Greta Gerwig (Between the Ladies, Barbie); fearless and insightful present people, by Kit Zouhar; The playful, dark comedy directed by Emma Seligman, shiv baby, ninja thaiberg movie, Pleasure, about the porn industry; Paul Verhoeven’s Showgirls, the epitome of kitsch entertainment of the 1990s; and melodrama about female resilience returnBy Pedro Almodovar, starring Penelope Cruz (Vicky Cristina Barcelona).

fatal Attractionby Michael Lehman, arrives on stage July 21. Starring Winona Ryder (Ghosts Have Fun, Stranger Things), it tells the story of teenager Veronica Sawyer, who fails to fit in with the cool crowd at school. When a trio of wicked girls begin crossing the line in their brutal game, Veronica becomes an accomplice to rebellious JD (Christian Slater, The Name of the Rose, Mr. Robot) in a series of high school murders.
