Review: Charlie’s Angels (2019) – The Autistic World

The series “As Panteras” was released in 1976. Soon, it became a landmark in American teledramatry with regard to the way women were portrayed in the series. So much so that it deserves a special mention in the chapter “Mulheres Conquistum a TV” written by me for the book “Ten Anos Later”, co-authored with Selma Sueli Silva. This is because, at the time, the program exposed a radical feminism. Eventually, this resulted in three female detectives who performed their duties more efficiently than their male colleagues.
Because Panteras has been a charming and innovative police officer since the beginning
Of course, today, the same series, which was created by Aaron Spelling, could even be interpreted as sexist, with other hits, such as “Charmed – Young Witches” and “Barrados No Belly”. This reading is due to the appearance of the mysterious boss, Charlie. Nevertheless, “As Panteras,” which aired from 1976 to 1981, still retains the charm, charisma and allure that makes the series a delightful pastime for lovers of police drama.
In 2000, it was the turn of the three investigators, played by Drew Barrymore, who also produced the feature films of the franchise, including this 2019 film, in addition to Cameron Diaz and Lucy Liu. The film, directed by McG, has become a mini classic of the last decade. Seriously, this is a great retelling. This was done by bringing in comedy and martial arts rather than firearms, due to Barrymore’s philosophical beliefs. However, retaining the qualities of the original. Thus, the success was so great that it even spawned a sequel which was much funnier, As panteras detonando (2003).
2019 retailing is fun and smart
See, in 2019, the franchise bagged another feature film. Its mission is no easy one to strike a balance between the escapist allure of the past and the modern discussions of today. Thankfully, this version strikes a delicate balance between appealing to the franchise and respecting the original. Plus, it expands the characters and the narrative. In addition, it expands the universe for debates relevant to the present day, such as technology and feminism. So, while it doesn’t have the same bright energy as its predecessors, it manages to captivate.
In that way, it’s about smart, funny production. Furthermore, it also has brilliant narrations and an engaging soundtrack to suit the proposition. As far as the main trio are concerned, Naomi Scott is the smartest and funniest of the three. He is joined by Ella Balinska and Kristen Stewart, as well as director and screenwriter Elizabeth Banks, who creates a fuzzy version of Bosley. Nevertheless, the film is positively surprised by the special participation of Jacqueline Smith, one of the Panthers from the 1976 series.
